Gary Gackstatter is an artist, musician, conductor, composer, and author. Winner of two Kansas Governor’s Arts Awards and the 2017 Missouri Humanities Educator of the Year Award, Gackstatter’s creative output includes crow quill ink drawings, symphonies, two books on Music Education, and a self-published book of his artwork. His artwork has been featured several times at the St Louis Art Fair, Webster Art and Air, and many solo shows.
I use 100 year old crow quill nibs dipped in ink to layer lines finer than a human hair to achieve depth and contrast, not only of shade, but also of meaning. The subjects I choose to draw have to draw me first. Often taking two hours per square inch, I feel the time is equal to care.
